Planning & FAQs

Q. Do I require planning permission for my porch?

A. Planning permission for your new porch is only required if your design answers ‘yes’ to any of these questions:

  • Will the ground floor area (when measured externally) exceed 3 square metres?
  • Will any part of the porch be more than 3 metres above ground level?
  • Will any part of the porch be within 2 metres of any boundary and/or highway?

(You may also need planning permission if you are in a Conservation Area or part of a Listed building.)

Q. Can I pay a deposit now and the balance at a later date?

A. Yes, you can pay a 20% deposit over the telephone and then the full balance will be due one week before delivery. Call our sales team on 01424 838606.

Q. What components are included in our price?

A. All of our porches come with Oak posts, Oak braces, Oak tie beams and Oak rafters. We also include staddle stones if required.

Q. Do you include the materials to fix the porch to the wall?

A. No, as different types of walls require different fixings. You will need to seek professional advice as to which fixings to use.

Q. Is assembly, groundworks or roofing included in your price?

A. No, we supply the frame components only.

Q. How long will my production drawings take?

A. Standard drawings take approximately one week. Design your own drawings can take up to two weeks.

Q. Do you include delivery?

A. We can give you a price for delivery in mainland UK, or you are welcome to pick your porch up from our factory in East Sussex.

Q. When will my item be delivered?

A. Standard size frames will be made to order and delivered within 6 to 8 weeks, from the time of production drawing sign off. Design your own frames may take a little longer and delivery time will be quoted on an individual basis.

Q. Do we need to apply any treatment to the porch?

A. We do not recommend treating the oak, as over time the natural weathering process will turn the oak silver.

Q. Can I put up the porch myself?

A. All of our porches come with full assembly instructions so if you have a good level of DIY skills and someone to help you lift the beams you should be able to carry out the assembly. Alternately, any builder or carpenter will be able to assemble most porches within a day.
